Treetop Nets (Yorkshire)

//Treetop Nets (Yorkshire)

Back in 2014 in the Lake District, we negotiated giant trampolines, walkways, slides and tunnels, having bucketfuls of fun in the process. Well, fast-forward two years and we were indulging in the same kind of fun – but this time near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

Yes, the second Treetop Nets opened in 2016 and, remarkably, it’s bigger and higher than its Cumbrian sibling. which means even more adventures for children and adults alike. While the Lake District site at Brockhole, near Windermere, is over 1,500 square metres, Yorkshire’s is over 2,000 and suspended up to 12 metres off the ground.

The concept remains the same, though. Surrounded by mature woodland providing a picturesque setting, you can bounce around on the network of nets while always feeling safe, thanks to the three-metre high walls of netting. So, you can relax as you explore, among others, the Bounce Zone, High Pass and Crow’s Nest.

The minimum age is three, the maximum weight 120kg and as the promotional leaflet states, you don’t need prior experience – simply a “have-a-go” attitude.

Open rain or shine, it’s best to come prepared. Trainers are recommended and bare skin is best covered because ropes and nets can be abrasive. While Treetop Nets is staffed by qualified instructors, there are requirements in terms of how many adults accompany children. For example, between the ages of three and six, there must be one participating adult for every two children. Check the website for full details.

An added bonus is the setting, amid trees and beautiful Yorkshire countryside, while free parking is available in the large car park.

There is a small snack bar on-site, but as your session on the nets last two hours, there is plenty of time to pop across to the café-cum-restaurant or enjoy a round of mini-golf, all just a stone’s throw away. These facilities are available because Lightwater Valley is next-door, boasting 40 rides and attractions for thrill-seekers of all ages.

 Treetop Nets Prices (2016): 3-4 years, £12.50; 5 upwards, £20; adult supervising under 7s, £12.50.
