Skelwith Fold, the popular caravan park in the heart of the Lake District, close to the popular town of Ambleside and some of the region’s most beautiful fells, is in the news for all the right reasons.

Set amid the 130-acre grounds of a former country home, the park provides caravan holiday homes for private owners plus fully-serviced pitches for those with touring caravans and motorhomes. Now, it’s making a splash with wild swimmers!

There are numerous wild swimming sites in Cumbria and people with a passion for plunging into lakes, pools and rivers are helping to make Skelwith Fold the county’s capital for wild swimming; it seems the park is, invariably, at the epicentre of opportunities.

As a result, touring caravan and motorhome owners who enjoy slipping into cool, clear waters represent a fast-growing sector of guests. And now, such visitors even have their own personal adviser to natural swimming sites in the shape of Jess Sutcliffe, a helpful and friendly member of the park’s customer services team.

Jess raised £1,700 for Parkinson’s UK when she took part in Windermere’s Great North Swim and says swimmers get the best of all worlds at the park. “There is a fantastic range of options just a short drive away, including lovely secret coves and beaches, waterfalls and tranquil glades with pools. But where we really score is that you don’t have to follow up a liberating wild water experience by returning to built-up surroundings. Skelwith Fold is in the heart of over 100 acres of parkland, so you can retain that wonderful sense of closeness to the natural world which many swimmers say they enjoy.”

If you’re a fresh water swimmer – or anyone, for that matter – and don’t have your own touring caravan or motorhome, why not stay in one of Skelwith Fold’s Hideaway pods located in a forest glade? Accommodating two people, each pod features a comfortable double bed, shower and loo, kitchen zone with microwave, oven and fridge, TV, and lounge-cum-dining space.
