Here at Travellowdown, we always enjoy visiting Jersey and our recent trip was no exception. Despite measuring just nine miles by five, it’s the largest of the Channel Islands as well as the southernmost. A self-governing dependency of the UK, it has much to offer visitors, including splendid beaches, rugged coastline, myriad walking trails, inland valleys, military history and a fine collection of superb cafés and restaurants. In fact, Britain’s sunniest spot has something for everyone. So, to help plan your short break, here’s a summary of what we got up to…
Perched high above a seemingly never-ending stretch of golden sand on the rocky North Devon coast sits a gem of a hotel. Paula and I were fortunate to experience three nights at the Saunton Sands Hotel and would return like a shot, so impressed were we with every aspect of our stay. As the Saunton Sands’ glossy brochure states, this is “the hotel with everything” and no truer words were written.
Recently, we enjoyed a short break in Wroclaw and, wow, what a city! Funchal - Madeira's capital - has some fine restaurants but a "must" whenever we visit is the sublime Il Basilico. Owned by the successful PortoBay Hotels & Resorts, it's one of several eateries the group has in the city and, in our view, one of its finest. Situated on Funchal’s popular Lido promenade, this [...]
For many years, Hestercombe has been one of those “must go there one day” destinations. You know the kind of places: you drive by the signpost fairly regularly but have always got somewhere else you must reach and so it’s another “next time” moment. Well, a couple of weeks ago, my family and I thought [...]
Heading to Jersey and Guernsey? Fancy visiting a decent eatery which dishes up fab pizzas? If so, here are some of our recommendations... JERSEY PizzaExpress Any visit to Jersey must include a visit to this wonderful restaurant – in fact, I’d eat here just to enjoy the sumptuous view, for which it scores 10/10! [...]
