Scattered around 40 miles of coastline are myriad beaches and rocky coves just waiting to be explored. Actually, it’s claimed that you’re never more than ten minutes from the sea and Jersey’s beaches – which come in all shapes and sizes – are appealing year-round. During our recent visit to the island, we visited as many as we could and here are five of our favourites…
Recently, we enjoyed a short break in Wroclaw and, wow, what a city! Situated on the Oder River in western Poland, it boasts, among other attractions, a fab Market Square edged by elegant, colourful townhouses, restaurants and cafes, the country’s second oldest botanical garden and myriad bridges. In fact, with over 100 bridges it’s no wonder Wroclaw is nicknamed “The Venice of Poland”.
Despite measuring just nine miles by five, Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands as well as the archipelago’s southernmost isle. A self-governing dependency of the UK, it has much to offer visitors.
Funchal - Madeira's capital - has some fine restaurants but a "must" whenever we visit is the sublime Il Basilico. As soon as you experience an overnight stay here, you’ll understand why. Paula and I were lucky enough to check out this four-star hotel which enjoys one of the finest coastal [...]
A bold proclamation to begin with: Paula and I don’t think we’ll eat a more delicious scone than what we had at these cosy little tea rooms near Bude. We cheekily asked the affable owner, Jill, for the recipe but, quite rightly, it’s a family secret! Never mind, it means a return visit will definitely [...]
A stone’s throw from Crooklet’s Beach in Bude is a family-run café serving up delicious diner-style food. Here, you can expect very generous portions, quick service and polite, helpful staff. We visited one evening while staying at nearby Wooda Farm Holiday Park. Despite it being very busy, there were no long waiting times or that [...]
