Brockhole Visitor Centre, situated on the shores of Lake Windermere, has always been a favourite as far as my children are concerned. On most of our visits to the region, they enjoy the on-site play area before we explore the extensive grounds.

But now there is even more to entertain kids – and adults, too, for that matter. As well as the opening of Treetop Nets (see separate review), anyone aged five and upwards can enjoy Treetop Trek.
The attraction’s promotional leaflet describes the experience as a “fun aerial adventure for the whole family, with 35 exciting treetop challenges through the ancient woodland canopy”.
The course is divided into two parts: Green Trek for ages five plus and Blue Trek for “those who want a little more adventure”, but you must be at least seven. A weight restriction of 120kg applies. Supervision rules apply, too. For children aged 5-6, one participating adult per child is required. Aged 7-11, one adult for every three children. For those aged 12-15, an adult needs to remain on the site at all times.
You need a head for heights, too, particularly on the Blue trek where, at times, you’ll be 17 metres above the ground, as you inch your way through the ancient canopy of trees. The Green Trek is less demanding as you take on 16 fun aerial challenges at heights ranging from five to seven metres. Whatever Trek you attempt, make sure you finish off with the ultimate thrill: the exhilarating 250-metre journey down the zip wire – it’s great fun.
Anyone who enjoys a bit of adventure will delight in tackling Treetop Trek in this perfect Lake District setting.
