So you can choose to rent or even buy a lodge in Devon, Cornwall, Cambridgeshire, Berkshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk or East Sussex. Whichever site you choose, you’ll find it’s located in a tranquil rural setting and contains stylish lodges offering all the mod cons.
The company prides itself on providing “unrivalled luxury” and that’s what we experienced whilst staying at the Hilton Woods site in North Cornwall. Tucked away in a quiet spot just a few miles from the rugged Cornish coast, it’s ideally located for reaching many of the region’s highlights, such as Bude, Boscastle and Tintagel.
By and large, the Dream Lodge Group focuses on the lodges themselves and the setting rather than packing each site with entertainment facilities – so don’t expect to find shops, swimming pools, amusement arcades, etc. This approach means it’s ideal for anyone who wants to relax and enjoy some well-earned peace and quiet. That said, it’s equally suitable for families as well as couples, as we discovered.

We were lucky enough to sample a three-bedroom Autograph Lodge for a couple of nights. Knowing this was among the newest on the site as well as being a top of the range lodge, we arrived excited about enjoying a little bit of luxury for the weekend and certainly weren’t disappointed.
Pulling up right outside the lodge, the kids were amazed at the expansive decking area, let alone the barbeque area, outside kitchen space for alfresco dining and steaming hot-tub which was almost inviting us in to relax after our long car journey. Although we had unpacking to do, it wasn’t long before we’d accepted the invitation!
If the outside space and hot-tub aren’t enough to wow you, the interior surely will. It’s hard to believe you’re entering a lodge, it’s more like a chic open-plan bungalow with everything you’d ever need, including underfloor heating, electronically controlled skylight windows which warn you if it’s raining, huge TV, DVD player, comfy seating – there are even Wii and Xbox consoles to amuse kids and adults alike.

Two bedrooms were particularly luxurious, containing ensuites with pleasant toiletries, comfy beds, etc. The third bedroom, however, didn’t live up to the standard of the others, being a small room with bunk-beds, but this didn’t affect our overall view of the lodge.

Because our stay was only brief, we didn’t want to travel far – in fact, we wanted to hang around and make the most of our time in the lodge. However, we did venture to the coastal town of Bude, just a few miles away. Soon after leaving the site, we picked up the coast road to the resort, passing through scenic Widemouth Bay on the way.
Bude is a small interesting town with its fair share of shops and eateries. Among its highlights is the lovely footpath weaving its way along the cliffs; even on a blustery November day, it was a delight stretching our legs along the coastal path. After our bracing walk, it was great returning to our cosy, luxurious lodge for a warming drink before taking another dip in the hot-tub.
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves so much we were sad to leave. We wouldn’t hesitate recommending a break at one of The Dream Lodge Group’s sites – in fact, we’re keen to experience another lodge/site ourselves!
