Heading to Jersey and Guernsey? Fancy visiting a decent eatery which dishes up fab pizzas? If so, here are some of our recommendations…

PizzaExpress
Any visit to Jersey must include a visit to this wonderful restaurant – in fact, I’d eat here just to enjoy the sumptuous view, for which it scores 10/10!
Overlooking St Brelade Bay’s wide sandy beach with a car park conveniently situated opposite, this gorgeous venue has a surfing design theme. Since opening more than 23 years ago, it’s long been a favourite with locals and visitors alike. In recent years, the restaurant has undergone a remodel and is definitely worth visiting; it’s the perfect destination for a meal before or after a stroll along the beach.
One of the good things about PizzaExpress is that you know what you’re going to get: tasty, perfectly-cooked pizzas; quick service and, in my experience, polite staff. That’s what I got at St Brelade. Highly recommended.

Off The Rails
Many restaurants offer pizzas but you’d be hard pressed to find any better than those sold at Off the Rails. Yes, there’s much more than just sourdough pizzas on the menu but, for me, these are what I’d come here for, time and time again if I were living on Jersey. This is a great little restaurant, really quirky and located alongside the Railway Walk, where Jersey’s railway once ran.
Open since 2019, this wooden cabin-like structure is situated close to a car park and offers seating inside and out. For me being vegan, it was good to see a plant-based cheese available while, another plus, is the large selection of toppings – 20, I counted!

GUERNSEY
Rosso Pizza & Bar
If you’re looking for a pizzeria in St Peter Port, the island’s main town, look no further than Rosso.
With lovely views over the harbour, this upstairs restaurant and bar is home to an authentic handmade stone pizza oven, apparently. Well, that must be one of the reasons the pizzas are so delicious!
Located next to Red Grill House, which is regarded as Rosso’s “big brother”, the owners decided to head in a different direction when establishing Rosso. So, choosing to open a pizzeria, nearly two years were spent in Italy and the States learning everything there was to know about pizzas.
As they state on their website: “Cooking pizza, we found, was easy. Cooking really good pizza – extremely difficult.” Well, I must say, the months abroad were well spent because the vegan cheese pizza I ate was top class!
Around ten different pizzas are on the menu plus 18 toppings. But if you still can’t find exactly what you want from your pizza, ask the friendly staff because they’re more than willing to try and satisfy their customers.
Altogether, an enjoyable meal in a pleasant upstairs location. Highly recommended.

Les Douvres Hotel
Tucked away in the southeast corner of Guernsey is a former 18th century manor hotel which now operates as a classy hotel and restaurant.
Reached via some of Guernsey’s narrow lanes in the parish of St Martin’s, it’s certainly a tranquil spot – and that’s what its many customers like about dining here.
With the choice of indoor and outdoor seating, the restaurant offers a large menu and in the owner’s words, “gastro pub-inspired dining with efficient, friendly and unfussy service”. To be fair, that’s what I experienced when I visited one lunchtime.
On the pizza front, “renowned, hand-rolled, stone-baked pizzas made using our secret dough recipe” are what you can expect. I chose a margherita with vegan cheese and avocado topping and it was delicious!
Les Douvres offers a smart restaurant, friendly staff, fab pizzas – what else can you ask for?

Getting there:
I travelled with Condor Ferries who operate daily high speed sailings to Guernsey from Poole, Dorset. Journey time is around three hours. The company also operates a conventional ferry from Portsmouth. Using Condor meant I could bring my own vehicle rather than hiring a car.
