Whenever we head off camping or on a self-catering break, we always pack plenty of plant-based drinks. Being a family of vegans and vegetarians, they’re a staple part of our daily diet and we’ve enjoyed trying out all the various options – oat, soya, pea, almond, oat & barley, rice and so on.
Must admit, I thought I’d tried them all but then I heard about DUG’s unsweetened potato drink and just had to try it, especially with the company’s website boasting that it’ll never separate in coffee or tea.
Many times, sadly, I’ve had to re-make my coffee because the plant-based drink I’ve used separates which is incredibly frustrating. Did I heat it up too much, was it something to do with the coffee granules? It’s something I’ve never been able to pin down. So you can imagine my delight when I discovered that DUG’s claim turned out to be true and I’ve enjoyed several coffees since.
As well as the unsweetened drink, Swedish brand DUG sell sweetened and barista versions, too, but these haven’t been sampled as part of this review. What is clear about the unsweetened, however, is that its versatility means it’s ideal for not just hot drinks but cooking, baking, cereal or simply chilled in a glass.
This vegan-friendly drink is full of goodness, including vitamins, protein and carbs. I found it delicious and creamy plus it’s good to know that potatoes are one of the world’s most sustainable foods, partly because you can grow them almost anywhere and they don’t need much to grow. Perfect!
DUG products can be ordered direct from www.dugdrinks.com and from various retailers, including Waitrose, Amazon, Ocado and the Naturally Vegan Supermarket.
