With summer upon us, relaxing with a refreshing white wine is, for many, the perfect way to end a busy day. For anyone who follows a plant-based diet, such as me, it’s even better to know the wine is suitable for vegans.

I’m always keen to try different varieties so was intrigued when I heard that Amazon was launching its first collection of wines – reds as well as whites – from some of the finest vineyards across the world, including South Africa, Chile, France and Australia. Furthermore, all ten wines have been selected and approved by a wine expert.

In these straitened times, value for money is important more than ever so it’s good to see by Amazon’s wines slotting into the £6-£10 range. Available via the company’s website, purchase options include a 75cl bottle, 3L or six-bottle option.

Because I feel summer is the time for lighter, more refreshing white wine, I decided to sample the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc (£7.99), Australian Chardonnay (£6.31) and South African Chenin Blanc (£6.99). I’ll leave the reds for another day!

Sauvignon Blanc is my favourite grape variety so the Chilean was always going to come out on top, as far as I was concerned. Luckily, it didn’t disappoint and, as the label states, it was crisp, zesty with lemon and lime flavours bursting through. Next was the Chenin Blanc with its citrus aromas while the flowery, perfumey Chardonnay was equally acceptable.

For an admirable, everyday-style wine, by Amazon’s first foray into the packed wine market should prove successful. Here at Travellowdown, we certainly intend to re-stock very soon.
