If you’re ever in Funchal and fancy Italian cuisine, you’ll find no better restaurant than Mamma Mia.
Owned by the Vidamar Resort Hotel – without question, one of the best (if not the best) hotels on the island – this contemporary designed restaurant edges the main road, just in front the hotel.
I’ve had the good fortune to dine there on several occasions and always return for more – in fact, I haven’t been disappointed once.
With its floor-to-ceiling windows, this airy, spacious eatery opens Wednesday to Sunday, 3pm-11pm.
The staff are attentive and polite. During my last visit, one of the waitresses even recognised me from a previous occasion, greeting me with: “Nice to see you again!”
The exclusive menu comprises everything you’d expect of an Italian restaurant, including salads, pizza, pasta and risotto dishes. The food is delicious and as the company’s website states: “We take the flavours of Italy very seriously around here! Our celebration of one of the world’s most popular cuisines is done with extreme care, skill and dedication!” I can attest to that.
The menu offers a range of classic and regional Italian dishes, with fresh pasta and pizza at the forefront of it all. All of this can be enjoyed within a relaxing environment while listening to ABBA’s greatest hits over the speaker system, including their chart-topping hit, Mamma Mia, of course!
I can’t recommend Mamma Mia highly enough.
