Waiting for your plane can often be the worst part of any journey so if you can sit back, relax away from the hubbub it certainly makes travelling more bearable.
Let’s face it, airport departure lounges aren’t great places: they’re usually overcrowded and noisy which is where premium lounges, like those operated by Plaza, come to the fore. Here, you can read the paper, enjoy a bite to eat and feel nice and relaxed when it’s time to board your plane.
Plaza Premium Lounge have independent lounges across the world and the company’s first in Europe opened at Heathrow’s Terminal 2 some years ago. We were lucky enough to sample the lounge at Terminal 5 when flying out to Denmark recently.
Ideally positioned overlooking the runway, the luxurious space is open to everyone. While you’re relaxing in the comfortable seating, you can enjoy freshly prepared food, the fully serviced bar with a wide variety of drinks, unlimited wifi and choice of papers and magazines.
Although the lounge is smaller than others we’ve sampled, this takes nothing away from the quality of the occasion. It’s very comfortable with a choice of seating, everything from dining tables to individual “pod” chairs for a touch of privacy.
We were flying in the morning so there was a buffet breakfast. As well as the hot section, items such as cereal, pastries, biscuits and yogurts were available. Being a vegan, however, my only comment is that there was a lack of meat alternatives within the hot food; otherwise, everything was delicious.
We’d definitely recommend making use of this lounge because it made the airport stage of our journey enjoyable rather than a chore. Plus, if you’re able to take full advantage of the food and drink available, the cost can certainly be justified.
